I've wanted this book ever since I read the summary a looong time ago on Amazon. So it makes me happy there's someone out there who portrays teenagers as real as they come. I only know another author that writes teenagers this real, and that's Queen Meg Cabot, ![]() It's just that she has this writing style, so carefree and fearless and teenagery. Slowly but surely, I've come to love Jennifer Echols books. ![]()

Bird by Bird, Haig said, “is my go-to gift or recommendation for anyone interested in writing, though it is as much a treatise on life as it is a creative-writing primer.” Matt Haig, the wildly popular British author of The Midnight Library and other bestsellers, responded to a 2020 query from The Washington Post about books he planned for holiday giving that year. Perlstein can (courtesy of the Museum of Television and Radio) watch NBC’s coverage of the Democratic convention in Chicago on August 28, 1968, and, transcribing the voiceovers and commentary, and depicting the visuals on the screen, put together a highly readable and vivid chapter. I have now read two-thirds of Rick Perlstein’s Nixonland (that is, up to the point where the book describes the Kent State shootings and aftermath) and can confirm that this historian’s narrative skills continue to be stronger than his primary research, which where this book is concerned, is comparatively skimpy. ![]() ![]() ![]() Malcolm knows the same, but it’s rare that he’s opened himself up to someone, particularly so quickly.
